Catch fish of a lifetime!! Tarpon fishing in boca grande pass on the hill tides and all the inshore fishing on the back water
My name is karl butigian I have lived in Boca grande and Charlotte harbor my whole life I have fished the back water estuary’s for over 30 years. Boca grande and Charlotte harbor has one of the best fisheries in the world we have so many different types of fish to fish for, from tarpon, redfish, snook, cobia, tribal tail sheepshead and trout with a lot of other fish as well. I also fish the pro redfish tournaments all over Florida to South Carolina to Louisiana with several wins and team of the year, and also tarpon tournaments. I spent a couple of summers in Alaska fishing commercial salmon.
Fishing redfish in boca grande Charlotte harbor can be very productive fishing them with crab and whitebait and artificial lures. In the summer when the waters are hot the redfish like to get up under the mangroves where there is shade and a great place for them to ambush there pray. Think of it like this the redfish want to be in cooler water or shade just like people do and all the fish are piled in those areas making it pretty easy to target them. As the waters cool down the redfish start to change their feeding habits and areas they like to hang in. As the waters cool down the redfish are going to look for areas that are warmer more open water areas or in the back of little coves where the water is going to be warmer, switching up the baits to crab, pinfish and shrimp.
The snook fish is great in the summer time when the waters are warm. Our snook get very active when the water is warm targeting them with whitebait, pinfish and for those big big snook ladyfish. The snook are going to act just like the redfish in the summer time pushing into shaded areas or deeper water to find cooler water. And there is nothing like first thing in the morning watching a big snook chase down your top water lure. As the winter approaches our snook fishing slows down big time. If the waters drop below 55 degrees our snook are in trouble they can’t live in that cold of water so a lot of our snook fishing is done in the summer time but you can still catch snook in the winter just not going to be like summer time.
Tarpon tarpon tarpon. Boca grand pass tarpon capital of the world. If you have never seen it or experienced it you need too. Tarpon migration usually starts once the winter is over every year is different but I usually start fishing tarpon in February and march. When the tarpon first come into boca grande there are not a lot of people fishing them we start fishing the tarpon usually in pine island with dead bait or live ladyfish and as it gets closer to April the tarpon start pouring into boca grande pass to start there breeding, and we will be fishing in thousands of tarpon at one time primarily using live crabs or squirrel fish. Fishing in boca grande pass can be a challenge cause of all the other boats but most of us in there know what we are doing and we can all work together to catch the tarpon. When fishing in boca grande pass for the tarpon aka silver king there are laws that we have to go by only up to three lines in the water at one time and motor has to stay running at all times big safety thing to keep everyone safe. We usually are leaving the dock before the sun comes up so it does make for some early days but around the hill tides of boca grande pass something crazy and wild happens and it happens on the full moons and new moons when the tides are the strongest and what happens in the late afternoon usually an hour or two before the sun goes down going into the dark when the tides is dumping out so hard it sucks all the crabs from boca grande Charlotte harbor back water and pushes them through the passes and the tarpon go into a huge feeding frenzy but that does all depend on the hill tide and the amount of crabs going through the water. We also break away from all the other boats and get on the beaches and find small pods of tarpon to our selfs and can really have a great time catching the tarpon using the same baits crabs and threadfins a big bait fish. Once the breeding time ends for the tarpon they move into Charlotte harbor in huge numbers and we they move into the harbor they are coming in there to feed so they have enough energy to make there big migration back south. This time of year we are using a lot of artificial baits casting at them and also using live ladyfish as bait. You don’t have as many boats fishing them this time of year either.
We also have a big variety of trout fishing sheepshead, snapper, cobia, tripal tails, I have traveled all over America fishing and we have some of the best fishing all year round. Certain times of the year are going to be better then others for different fish best thing I can tell you is give me a call and we can talk more details and see what fish are running better and get you what you want weather it’s tarpon, inshore, shark or near shore fishing in boca grande Charlotte harbor.
We offer a variety of charter options, including tarpon fishing, shark fishing, inshore for redfish, snook, trout, and near shore trips, night trips. We can also customize your trip to suit your preferences and needs.
